I am hoping to attend a few contests this year - I have 2 dlg's but I want to have something so that I can fly in whatever TD events occur at the same venues as the dlg stuff. I have purchased an Isthmus models mistral - I'm not certain it will be up to the task of the winch...Would anyone care to comment on either the laser arts soverign or the pacific sailplanes war eagle?...or any other model you consider worthwhile to learn the game on - the kit should be 400 dollars or less ...the two mentioned above are between 200 and 300 ish - I don't expect to be competitve (I don't have the skills for that anyway) but I'd like to try and get a plane that isn't going to disinegrate on the first launch..Thanks in advance!

If you are considering a Laser Arts product, then you want to look at the MAJESTIC 110 with (Mark Drela's modifications) - Miller's Mistral is fine too, you might have to reinforce the spar and TE if you plan to launch aggressively.

You might want to read the latest issue of Soaring Digest, there is an article on wing shear loads.

The sovering is $65.00 and only a 2m (I wouldn't get this) - think 3m and up

thanks Jose,

I got a good deal on an Ava and so that's gonna be the contest ship and I'll build the mistral as my backup - looking forward to the season - actually it's been great so far!
