-------------------------------------------------- From: "Anker Berg-Sonne" Sent: Tuesday, July 20, 2010 9:16 AM Subject: CRRC Hand Launch Classic contest report
The contest that almost wasn't.
The weekend of the CRRC Hand Lanch Classic turned out to be one where the regular CD and organizer, Mark Drela, was going to be out of town. To salvage the contest a team consisting of Dick Williamson, Jose Bruzual and myself from CRRC, and Frank Nisita From LISF banded together and got the logistics together. Right up front I have to thank LISF and especially Frank for jumping in and both helping with the planning, but also by sending a large contingent, the biggest, to the contest. A great example of the ESL clubs helping each other when in need. Hopefully CRRC can reciprocate by sending a group to the LISF hand launch contest in a couple of weeks.
The weather was sunny, hot and breezy, so we kept the tempo down to give the contestants and timers time to recover between rounds. On Saturday we flew a total of 9 rounds with 13 contestants divided into 2 groups. At the end of the day the top three sportsmen were John Sabatini in 3rd, Frank Nisita in 2nd and David Ashinsky in 1st. David also placed 4th overall. In expert Dan Siegel was 3rd, Kenny Sharp 2nd and Dave Walter 1st.
Sunday's weather was a repeat of Saturday and we completed 5 rounds before lunch in order to ensure that there would be one throwaway in case the weather deteriorated. After lunch we did fly another two rounds. The 7th round was an AULD round with numerous off-field landings that completely changed the standings. The end sportsman result was that Frank Nisita made 3rd, Miner Crary 2nd, and no surprise, David Ashinsky in 1st (3rd overall). It is great to have a young flyer show so much talent and enthusiasm. In expert Kenny Sharp made 3rd, Lincoln Ross 2nd and Dan Siegel 1st.
The grand champion for the weekend was Dan Siegel.
The complete scores are posted on the ESL web site, http://flyesl.org
Thank you to all who helped make this contest a success. It would have been a shame to have canceled.
