There were no changes in ESL positions * Contest Director – Tom Kiesling * Public Relation Coordinator – Jeff Steifel * Web Content editor – Ed Anderson * Web Technical editor - Jose Bruzual * HLG liaison – TBD * Treasure – David Beach * Score keeper - Anker
There were discussions about HLG, equipment, contest fees, contest format, and public relations.
HLG Discussion:
* The discussion opened with talks about who would like to take the position of HLG liaison. Tom Kiesling offered to contact the HLG group for a volunteer. The responsibility of the HLG liaison would be to ensure contest sanction fees are collected, HLG scores are turned over and to keep the lines of communication open between the HLG group and the TD group. Additionally the HLG liaison would also be responsible for the EOS HLG awards.
* There were further discussions about HLG contests that have not paid the ESL sanction fees for 2006 and 2007. It was decided to turn this unfortunate situation into a positive direction for the ESL by having the ESL sponsor the Polecat HLG event for 2008.
Equipment:
We discussed the condition of the ESL winches, batteries, battery chargers, storage, winch line, and maintenance.
* It was decided that the purchase of battery charges are not necessary for the ESL. Usually the club sponsoring the ESL event would supply the necessary battery chargers. CD’s will continue to make their own arrangements for chargers at their contests. * Additionally the ESL would purchase 4 new Optima batteries. Tom Broeski volunteered to take on the responsibility to get the ESL a purchase price on the Optima batteries. Tom is a dealer for Optima batteries. Thanks Tom. * Dale Hart will coordinate auction/disposal of current batteries. * Winch line – Steve Lucky volunteered to order 2 cases of 250 pound braided winch line. Thanks Steve. * Equipment maintenance and storage – Tony Guide volunteered to maintain the winches for the 2008 season. Maintenance would include brush and armature replacement and any necessary repairs. Tony Guide and Steve Lucky will store the ESL equipment during the winter months.
Contest fees:
* There was also a brief discussion about contest fees. Should we charge a per person ESL membership fee, increase the sanction fees or keep the current model for the ESL. It was decided there would be no change to the current model for contest fees for 2008.
PR Person:
* Jeff Steifel agreed to be PR person for 2008. We discussed the idea of creating an article of the history of the ESL, from start to 2008. The article could be used to promote awareness among the model community that the ESL is strong in Thermal duration and HLG competition. The article will be presented for publication to RC Soaring digest, Quiet flyer, and online forums. Jeff agreed to take on the task. I think Jeff will require everyone’s input on this so he can represent the ESL accurately. Thanks Jeff.
Contest format:
We also discussed TD contest format, open winch, launch groups, MOM. The members present indicated a preference for Man-On-Man contests. However, the contest format will continue to be chosen at the discretion of the Contest Director. We all like the MOM format that LISF and CRRC have for their ESL contests. The question went out; can SKSS, CASA, and Reading adopt a MOM format? CASA and SKSS certainly have the real estate to conduct a MOM contest format. Maybe some helpful suggestions from LISF and CRRC will help them change their format to MOM.
Motion to adjourn was made and approved.
